Don’t throw away those leftover hot cross buns that have gone a little stale! Here are three different ways you can Bring them back to life and transform them into something delicious once more!


FRENCH TOAST


Serves 2 - 10 mins
Ingredients:
  • 1 free range egg
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 2 hot cross buns
Toppings:
Nut butter (we used The Honest Pantry’s ABC Cacao Crunch Butter)
Sliced banana
From your pantry:
Butter
Method:


1. Whisk together egg and milk.


2. Cut hot cross buns in half and soak them in the egg mixture.


3. Heat a frypan over medium-high heat with butter.


4. Cook buns for 3-4 minutes each side until golden.


5. Top with nut butter and sliced banana.

CHEESE CRACKERS


Serves 4 - 15 mins
Ingredients:
  • 2 hot cross buns
  • Soft cheese of choice (we used Noshing Naturally’s Marinated Vegan Feta)
From your pantry:
Olive Oil
Method:


1. Set oven to 200ºC. Thinly slice buns (roughly 1/2 cm thick).


2. Coat both sides of the slices with olive oil.


3. Bake on a lined oven tray for 8-10 minutes.


4. Remove crackers to a cooling rack for 5 minutes.


5. Top with soft cheese of choice or use for dipping.

ICE CREAM CRUMB TOPPING

10 mins
Ingredients:
  • 1 hot cross bun
Serve with:
Ice Cream of choice,
Plums or fruit of choice
Method:


1. Break apart hot cross bun and process into a crumb.


2. Toast crumbs in a dry frypan over medium heat for 5-8 minutes until golden.


3. Serve on top of plums and ice cream.
