Whether you prefer sweet or savoury, there are countless ways to customize cream cheese.

Smeared onto freshly baked bagels, these combos are irresistibly delicious.
You can enjoy them as-is, or pair them with proteins, fruits and veggies of choice. We've added our favourite suggestions in the descriptions to get you started!
Not only are these cream cheese toppings delicious — they're also super simple to whip up.
You can stick to just making one type, or put together a platter with a few options and a bunch of bagels. (To be honest? That's exactly what we did!)
Here are 4 winning cream cheese toppings that go well with your brunch bagels.

JALAPENO, PEPPER & SPRING ONION

Salty, a bit vinegary, and spicy — this jalapeno, pepper and spring onion cream cheese is ah-mazing on fresh bagels! We suggest pairing it with smoked free-range ham and baby spinach for a winning combo.
Ingredients:
  • 125g cream cheese
  • 50g sour cream or Greek yoghurt
  • 50g drained jalapenos
  • 2 spring onions (or a handful of chives)
  • salt and pepper (to taste — but lots of pepper!)
Method:
  • Finely chop jalapenos and spring onions.
  • Whisk together cream cheese, sour cream, salt and pepper. Stir in chopped jalapenos.

MAPLE, PECAN & CINNAMON

This rich, nutty medley of flavours and textures is a definite crowd pleaser. It's great on sweet bagels like raisin or blueberry, and even makes a plain bagel shine. Enjoy it as a topping as-is or pair with sliced apple, banana, or an extra drizzle of maple syrup.
Ingredients:
  • 125g cream cheese
  • 50g sour cream or Greek yoghurt
  • 75g toasted pecans
  • 1-2 tbsp maple syrup (to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp ground cinnamon
Method:
  • Finely chop pecans.
  • Whisk together cream cheese, sour cream, maple syrup and cinnamon. Stir in chopped pecans.

CAPERS, DILL & LEMON

We're not gonna lie; even though this spread is tasty on its own on a bagel, it's even better when paired with smoked salmon and a few slices of cucumber.
Ingredients:
  • 125g cream cheese
  • 50g sour cream or Greek yoghurt
  • 50g drained capers
  • around 10g fresh dill
  • 1/2 lemon
  • salt and pepper
Method:
  • Finely chop capers and dill.
  • Whisk together cream cheese, sour cream, 1 tsp lemon zest and juice from 1/2 lemon.
  • Stir caper-dill mix through cream cheese. Season with salt and pepper.
Want to make this at home? We used Philadelphia cream cheese, lemons and Community Co baby capers from the Dinner Twist Marketplace.

VANILLA, BERRY & HONEY

Sweet, creamy, and a great dessert spread. Wonderful on its own on a sweet or plain bagel. Also great topped with fresh berries, sliced banana, or a sprinkle of chopped, toasted nuts or coconut flakes.
Ingredients:
  • 125g cream cheese
  • 50g sour cream or Greek yoghurt
  • 100g fresh or frozen berries (thawed). Or, use a few tablespoons of berry jam or compote — just use less honey, too
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla paste (or fresh vanilla or vanilla essence)
  • 1-2 tbsp honey (to taste)
Method:
  • Blend together berries, vanilla and honey.
  • Whisk together cream cheese and sour cream. Stir through berry mix.
